Emergency Medical Alert

LifeLink Medical Alert System

"Avoid Monthly Fees"

LifeLink works a little differently than most medical alert systems. With this system, you buy the equipment up front and pay no ongoing monthly fees. When you activate your alarm, rather than your call going to a call center, your phone is triggered to call pre-set numbers that you have programmed like your neighbor or family members.

LifeLink system is easy to install. You plug it into your phone jack and then plug your phone into the LifeLink unit. Once it is set up, you then program the four numbers you want the unit to call if you need help. The unit will call the first number and if someone answers it will deliver your pre-recorded message. If no one answers the first number, it will go down the line until someone answers.

With the LifeLink medical alert system, you wear the personal alarm around your neck on a pendant. The pendant is waterproof and you can wear it in the shower so you should leave it on at all times.

If you happen to fall in the shower, you press the alarm button on your pendant and a wireless signal is sent to the base unit. This activates an alarm in your home that will draw attention from your neighbors. It also activates the automatic dialing feature that goes to work to get you help as quickly as possible.

When your contact person answers the phone, he is instructed to press "0" as this will silence the house alarm and activate the microphone. When the alarm stops you know the microphone is live and you can state your problem.

The speaker is just one-way so your contact person won't be able to respond so you can hear. He can hang up and try to contact you by phone or hang up and call 911 if you need immediate help. If you cannot answer the phone you will be able to hear your contact person leave a message on your answering machine telling you help is on the way.

The LifeLink pendant has a range of 100 feet from the base unit. The company states this is enough space to cover a 3500 square foot home and up to three stories. The unit uses a 9 volt battery for back up in the event of a power failure. An indicator light lets you know when it is time to change the battery.

The only charge associated with LifeLink system is the initial purchase of the base unit and pendant. This runs between $200 to $300. You can purchase additional pendants for around $60. The unit comes with a one year warranty but you can purchase an extended warranty of two or three years.

Pros

No corporate alarm monitoring services, no contracts to sign, no hidden charges, and no monthly fees. Because you own it, you can take it with you wherever you move.

Cons

Initial price is $289. No Call center. The unit range from your pendant is rather short compare to other systems.

Conclusion

The LifeLink medical alert system is a good choice if you don't want to be bothered with on-going monthly fees and have reliable contacts you can call in an emergency. You can program 911 into the system if that is allowed in your area but it is recommended you use it as a final alternative if none of your other contacts can be reached.
